A little background on Derby:
The city of Derby lies on the banks of the River Derwent on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It was a centre of growth during the Industrial Revolution and is still home to some of the UK’s most important manufacturing and service companies.Employment and income levels are better than average, while house prices remain comparatively low, making Derby the second-best family-friendly city in which to live, in a recent analysis.
Derby enjoys extensive transport links, with a mainline station and several major ‘A’ roads running through or near the town, and just a 30-minute drive from the M1.
Derby has a compact centre divided into three distinct areas, with Victorian buildings and pedestrian areas providing an excellent choice of shops, entertainment and eateries. Derby has a large number of parks, including Derby Arboretum with its restored Grove Street Lodge building. There are listed rail workers’ cottages and Victorian terraced homes, and many prominent buildings in and around Derby, some converted into flats.
